Are you interested in getting a facelift, but nervous about having a major surgery? You’re not alone! The good news is that there is a minimally invasive, non-surgical, and effective procedure called a liquid facelift. Keep reading to learn more!
What is a traditional facelift?
Also known in the medical world as a rhytidectomy, a facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces unwanted sagging skin or folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline as well as other changes that occur to the face caused by aging. The end result? A refreshed, younger-looking appearance.
Sounds promising, right? Here’s where things get icky. During a traditional facelift procedure, a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back (The incision starts at the hairline, continues to the front of the ears, and ends behind the ears at the lower scalp). The tissues below the skin are surgically altered to achieve a more contoured, youthful shape. Excess skin is removed, the flaps are sutured and then closed. Yikes.
Not only is a traditional facelift extremely invasive, but it also does nothing to reduce fine lines or wrinkles or damage from sun exposure! In addition, there is a lengthy recovery period and the risk for complications is quite common. Some of which include:
- Hematoma
- Scarring
- Nerve injury
- Hair loss
- Skin loss
- Infection
- Adverse reactions to anesthesia
What is a liquid facelift?
A liquid facelift at Skin NV involves multiple injections of dermal fillers – FDA-approved substances that restore facial volume and provide a more youthful appearance. That’s it?? Yes, that’s it! It already sounds a lot better than a traditional facelift, right??
A liquid facelift commonly targets the following:
- Cheek volume loss
- Drooping lower eyelids
- Temples
- Marionette lines
- Jowls at the side of the mouth
- Smile lines
- Crow’s feet
The ideal candidate for a liquid facelift is a young to middle-aged patient with early signs of aging, i.e., any of the conditions listed above. This procedure is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, nursing, or have an allergy to lidocaine or an ingredient found in dermal fillers.
What is the downtime of a liquid facelift?
At Skin NV, we advise our patients to rest one day following a liquid facelift procedure and avoid strenuous activity for at least one week. Redness and swelling may occur but should subside within a few days. Other possible side effects may include bruising, prolonged, edema, facial asymmetry, nodule formation, and in rare cases, an infection at the injection site.
How long does a liquid facelift last?
The duration of a liquid facelift ranges from one to two years and is based on several factors such as the type of dermal filler used and how much filler was injected. Regular follow-up visits to our South Tampa med spa are highly recommended to maintain results.
